First Fridays: March Announcements

Our March edition of First Fridays was a wonderful conversation about the work of PRAIRIE Institute - a non-profit whose mission is to unite compassionate hearts and skill from many cultures for a renewal of health, agriculture and community.

We had lots of great announcements about upcoming community events and opportunities.

Bjorn Solberg, Red River Harvest Cooperative
Despite it being March, the Red River Harvest Cooperative is still active and creating great farm to school partnerships. They also have a fun St. Patrick's Day bundle coming up!

Janice Tweet, Great Plains Food Bank
The Great Plains Food bank is hosting an event to share the results of our Hunger on the Plains report on March 14 at 2pm at the United Way. They also have openings for volunteers to help with meal delivery for a pilot they are launching.

Forrest Steinhoff, City of Moorhead
The City of Moorhead is providing small grants of up to $500 to start or operate a community garden on private land (City owned property is not available for this program). Community garden plots must be open and available to the public and either be free or have a minimal cost to join/reserve a plot of land. Funds must be used to help directly support the community garden. Potential uses of funding could be used for seeds, raised beds, weed control, eliminating/reducing membership fees, soil preparation, etc. Funds may not be used for personnel costs, water bills, structures, etc.

Jack Wood, Growing Together Community Gardens
- Join the Tomato Seed Savers Club! They meets on Tuesdays & Thursdays and to date have saved over 229 tomato seed varieties. Check out their Facebook group to learn more.
- The Growing Together Sign-Up Meeting Potluck is March 16 at Gethsemane Cathedral. Bring a dish, enjoy a meal together, and learn more about Growing Together. Details on their Facebook page.

Deb Haugen, Cass Clay Food Partners
The CCFP Food Commission is back meeting in-person in 2023 with the next meeting on March 8 at 10:30am at Fargo City Commission Chambers. They also launched 'Coffee with a Commissioner' to increase transparency and accessibility with the greater community in February and the next event is planned for April with Paul Krabbenhoft from the Clay County Commission. Everyone is welcome!

Carrie Wintersteen, Theatre B
Theatre B is currently running "The Lifespan of a Fact", and an adaptive theatre project presenting "Treasure island". This is a result of an ongoing collaboration between HOPE Inc, Theatre B, and Concordia Theatre.
