First Fridays: September Announcements
To commemorate Hunger Action Month and kick-off SEASON 10 of First Fridays, we welcomed Stacie Loegering (Emergency Food Pantry), Megan Jenson (Cass Clay Hunger Coalition), and Taylor Severtson (Great Plains Food Bank) for a conversation about hunger in our community.

Zoe Absey - Cass Clay Hunger Coalition
The 5th annual Hunger Summit will take place on October 20th at Bluestem. Registration opens September 6th at 8:00 AM.

Jack Wood - Growing Together Community Garden Market
The third Growing Together Diversity Potluck will be Sept. 14 featuring the foods of Afghanistan and the Congo.
The Market Garden at Gethsemane Cathedral (3600 25th St S.) is held every Tuesday from 2-6 p.m. The new Growing Together cookbook will be available for sale at the Market Garden.
The Tomato Seed Savers Club meetings Tuesdays from 2-4 p.m. and Thursdays from 9-11 a.m. They have 136 varieties they are saving seeds.
Chase Nelson - 3rd Annual Aronia Berry Harvest Festival
The 3rd annual Aronia Berry Harvest Festival is a free event for the entire family. Food, drink, and craft vendors, petting zoo, cooking demo, rc cars, live music, yard games and so much more!

Toby Zikmund - Red River Market
The Red River Market’s mission is to create a place where all people can experience the joys of local food. Shop from over 60 local vendors including produce, meat, eggs, bakery, pantry items, household goods, and art. They have many volunteer opportunities through the season.

Bjorn Solberg - Red River Harvest Coop & Sustainable Farming Association Deep Roots Festival
Red River Harvest Cooperative is a community of local producers committed to empowering a resilient local food economy by providing sustainably grown food options while practicing good stewardship of agricultural resources.

The Deep Roots Festival is a family-friendly event that will feature a farm tour of four local farming operations including an apple orchard, organic seed farm, and organic dairy, educational workshops, kids activities, live music, and foods (local Mexican tacos) and goods from local farms. A feature of this year’s festival is the premier of a photo exhibition by local artist, Jon Solinger. Titled “Deep Roots: Sustaining a Living Community” Jon’s work depicts the sustainable farmers of our region who are working each day to grow food while caring for the land.

Meghan Carter-Johnson - Audubon Dakota
The Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest will be held in North Dakota this September and in celebration of one of the country's most successful conservation programs, the Duck Stamp, Audubon Dakota has partnered with the Prairie Pothole Joint Venture to host two public events, Grazing the Grasslands: A Wildlife and Working Lands Tour at Black Leg Ranch (McKenzie, ND) on Wednesday September 21 and Ducks at Daybreak: A Guided Birding Adventure at Atkinson Nature Park (Bismarck, ND) on Friday September 23.
