Take Action
Take Action
You can make a difference.
here are a few simple ways to foster a more personal, sustainable relationship to local food.
1. take personal action
We believe in the importance of thinking global, but acting local. Take small steps to reduce personal waste in your own life, then move on to sharing what you’ve learned with friends, family, co-workers and your community at large.
2. start conversations
See a problem in your everyday life? Bring it up to those around you. Start thinking about possible solutions. Get a variety of perspectives. Identify a goal. Start small, but dream big.
3. SUPPORT LOCAL
Seek out products that are locally-made whenever possible. Have a question? Ask a farmer at your local Farmers Marker. [NOTE: if you’re in the Fargo-Moorhead area, check out this comprehensive listing of area farmers markets via our blog]
4. attend our events
Get connected to our upcoming events on Facebook. Join us at First Fridays at B. Participate. Make connections with those around you. Follow up.
5. volunteer
As of Spring 2020, we don’t have consistent volunteer opportunities available with Food of the North. If you’re interested in supporting the Fargo-Moorhead local food community, check out our list of suggested community partners currently accepting volunteers:
The Emergency Food Pantry is a food distribution program whose mission is to provide referred families and individuals facing emergency situations with one week's supply of healthy food. [click here for volunteer opportunities]
Great Plains Food Bank's mission is to end hunger in North Dakota and western Minnesota through community partnerships. They are the largest hunger-relief organization in North Dakota and serve as its only food bank. Each year, their work impacts the lives of one in nine individuals who seek emergency food assistance.
